Quick walk up Schellenursliweg / Schellenursli Trail in St. Moritz in winter. It’s not particularly difficult nor particularly long, but a peaceful walk with great views over St. Moritz.

Startpoint: St. Moritz

Endpoint: Salastrains, and then return

Details: Approx 4.2 km, +/- 220 m elevation difference

Time: A little over an hour to go up and back, depending on where in town you start

Date hiked: 17 December 2022. It should be fine year round, when we went there was fresh snow which was beautiful

Schellen Ursli

Schellen Ursli is a well-known Swiss Children’s book about a boy named Ursli and bells, to put it simply… There’s also a museum a film adaptation of the story. There’s a summary on Wikipedia if you’re interested, I’ve just always taken note of the story because the name of the character is similar to someone very dear to me.

Anyway! There’s another Schellen Ursli Weg in the town of Guarda, but this trail is a short hike up to the Salastrains ski area which we were at to see one of the FIS Ski World Cups in St. Moritz.

Along the trail you have different carved figures and displays that tell the story of Schellen Ursli (in Romansh, German, Italian, English).

On the way back down we saw some people with strollers and on kids being pulled sleds if that gives you a better indication of what the path is like. All in, this is a super easy and beautiful walk through the woods with great views over the lake and town. I’d definitely come back and spend more time in the area.
