This is a beautiful and not impossibly difficult hike from Scex Rouge to Le Dôme. It’s not the longest hike, nor that big of an elevation difference. But – you are at around 3000m high so the air is thinner, it’s colder than down below and when I was there it got decently windy and cloudy, parts of it are a little steep, and towards the top of the hike there are loose stones.

Startpoint: Scex Rouge / Tissot Peak Walk

SCEX ROUGE to Le DôMe

I started at the Tissot Peak Walk (more on that in a separate post). From there, there are signs for the Dôme hike and the route is relatively straight forward there and back. Alternately from here you can also do a hike over the glacier, but if the weather is nice the Dôme route is really the way to go.

On the way up you have really great views of the glacier area – this is the Ice Express chairlift which you can take from Scex Rouge down to the glacier instead of walking, if you go that route.

The path up at the beginning is fairly wide and easy, nothing too challenging with amazing views behind.

Once you get further up, the path becomes more rocky and a perhaps little less easy to follow, but nothing too difficult.

The top is marked by two piles of rocks you can start to see from further down. Once you are at the top, on a clear day you can see Monte Rosa, Dom, etc.

On the way back down to Scex Rouge, it started to get really windy and cloudy. Not exactly fun but it was manageable and the worst of it didn’t come until I was back down to the Glacier Walk route. I had considered doing that afterwards but there were too many clouds to make it worthwhile. Plus I was cold. I had checked the weather in the morning and days before for rain, I would also recommend checking the cloud coverage because when you’re that high up it does make a difference.

All in, this was a super fun experience. While the Glacier 3000 experience is interesting on its own with the Peak Walk and other hikes and things you can do here, this hike was a definite highlight.
